What each field on the key records means and how it feeds the calculations and documents.
Placement (insurance broker)
- Client / insured name
- The account the risk belongs to, and the risk/insured shown on the slips.
- Line of business
- Class of business (e.g. Fire, Motor) — drives which cover terms apply.
- Sum insured
- The insured value; the basis for premium and market shares.
- Brokerage %
- Default brokerage on the placement; each market line can override it.
- Cover basis
- Reinstatement / indemnity / agreed value.
- Perils, conditions, warranties, subjectivities
- Structured cover terms that render onto the quote/placing slips.
- Deductible / type
- The excess and whether it's an amount or a percentage.
- Limit of indemnity
- For liability covers.
Market quote
- Market
- The carrier quoting (an account).
- Premium
- The carrier's quoted premium; the lead's sets the placed (100%) premium.
- Commission %
- Brokerage for this market's line (overrides the placement default).
- Signed line %
- The share this market subscribes (co-insurance). Lines sum to ~100% to bind.
- Lead
- Marks the lead market.
Product & quote (insurer)
- Base rate % / min premium
- Product rating: premium = sum insured × base rate (+ coverage rates), floored at the minimum.
- Hazard level / prior claims / loss ratio %
- Risk-profile inputs to the transparent risk score & band.
- Cover type / excess / NCD % / TP property limit
- Motor & fire schedule cover terms.
- Vehicle reg / make / model / year / use
- Motor schedule.
- Risk location / construction / occupancy
- Property (fire) schedule.
- Term years / annual premium / bonus % / interest %
- Endowment: term, savings premium, reversionary bonus and guaranteed interest — drive the fund/surrender/maturity projection.
- Channel name / channel commission %
- Bancassurance: the introducing bank/partner and the commission owed to it.
Treaty (reinsurer)
- Type / basis / direction
- Quota share / surplus / excess-of-loss; proportional or non-proportional; inward (assumed) or outward (retro).
- Retention % / cession %
- Proportional split — what the cedant keeps vs. cedes.
- Commission % / overriding commission %
- Ceding commission and any override.
- Profit commission % / management expense %
- Profit-commission terms.
- AIT % / portfolio %
- Withholding tax and portfolio transfer rates — the profit-commission statement derives AIT and portfolio withdrawals from these.
- Estimated premium (EPI)
- Expected premium base.
- Underwriting-year basis
- Whether the treaty accounts by underwriting year.
Treaty section & layer
- Section — retention amount / surplus lines / max cession
- Surplus structure: 1 line = the retention; surplus capacity is lines × line, capped by max cession.
- Section — subclass / commission %
- The subclass the section covers and its ceding commission.
- Layer — attachment / limit
- Excess-of-loss layer: 'limit xs attachment'.
- Layer — premium / reinstatements
- Layer price and how many times cover reinstates (drives reinstatement premium).
Facultative
- Type / accepted share %
- Proportional or XoL; the share the reinsurer accepts.
- Sum insured / premium (100%)
- The full risk and premium; the acceptance takes its share.
- Commission %
- Ceding commission on the accepted premium.
- Attachment / limit / reinstatements
- For facultative excess-of-loss.
Programme (reinsurance broker)
- Type / line of business / currency / period
- The programme being placed.
- Estimated premium (EPI) / brokerage %
- Premium base the panel shares, and the broker's brokerage.
- Section — attachment / limit / premium
- The structure subscribed to.
- Participation — reinsurer / written line %
- Each reinsurer's share; lines sum to the placed %.
IFRS 17 contract group
- Portfolio / cohort year / measurement model
- The unit of account and whether it's measured under PAA or GMM.
- PV premiums / PV claims / risk adjustment
- Fulfilment inputs (GMM) and the onerous test.
- Coverage units (total)
- The basis for releasing the CSM over the coverage (GMM).
- Coverage earned % / claims incurred
- PAA inputs — release the LRC to revenue and measure the LIC.
- Discount rate %
- Annual accretion rate (GMM).
